 3. The Doors of Perception   Huxley, Aldous
Hard Cover Very Good+ Good+ 5 1/4" Wide x 7 11/16" Tall
NY. Harper & Brothers,1954, First Edition - with "First Edition" & "M-C" both appearing on copyright page. Tight and Clean copy, dark blue cloth spine over light blue cloth boards, silver spinal titles, very light corner edgewear, unmarked text, includes a 1954 newspaper 5.75" wide x 13.75" tall ,3 column article about the authors experimentation and ingestion of Mesculin in the form of Peyote which also features a slightly antagonistic interwiew with Huxley on Mankind's limited senses, the mind, and perceptions. The adjoining pages that held this article are slightly darkened, the clear Brodart covered dust jacket has edgewear with small small edge nicks, end edge and hinge splitting, a few closed short tears, minor cover age darkening and faint soiling, a sall amount of material rubbed away from the jacket's spinal heel, and about an inch of material rubbed away from the jacket's spinal crown. This is Aldous Huxley's famous work on his controversial and thought provoking experiments with mescalin, the active ingredient of Peyote - the desert cactus long used by Native American Indians of the Southwestern United States and Mexico in Sacred Religious Ceremonial Rites and Shamanism. His work had an immeasurable effect on the widespread acceptance of Psychedelic Hallucinogenic Drugs and Compounds in the 1960s. Which helped spawn the Hippie Cultures, Free Love Philosophies, and the Psychedelic Movement as the search for the perfect State of Shared Experiences, Social Freedoms, Desires for Communal Harmony, Altered Consciousness, Escapes from Reality, and Altered States of Meditative Perception. This is a Memoir of his first Psychedelic Trip, with his recollections of Transcendental and Mystical Experiences, Human Perception, Reflections on Humanity, Cultures, Enlightened Freethinkers and Artists, the Self, Societies, and an analysis of Reality. He would later experiment with LSD and Mushrooms containing Psilocybin. With the title of this book borrowed from the works of William Blake, the book and its title inspired famous Rock and Roll Singer/Guitar Player Jim Morrison to use part of the book's title to name his Rock Band, which is altogether another story in itself. 79 pages.
